"This survey was set up to get a better profile of the users of Gabriel and their future needs. The users of Gabriel are considered potential future users of The European Library. In total 560 people responded to the questionnaire....This report gives insight into the background of the respondents, their use of the internet, their use of the Gabriel website and their opinions about this site. The respondents were also asked if they would use a shared catalogue of all the national libraries in Europe if that was to be created."

SEPIADES. Cataloguing photographic collections, by Edwin Klijn and Yola de Lusenet, published by the European Commission on Preservation and Access (ECPA).
This report "aims to provide background information on the SEPIADES (SEPIA Data Element Set) advisory report and software tool that were developed in the framework of the SEPIA programme. SEPIA stands for 'Safeguarding European Photographic Images for Access' (SEPIA) (http://www.knaw.nl/ecpa/sepia)....SEPIADES is a multi-level data element set to catalogue photographic collections. Apart from 21 core elements, it contains many suggestions for use of specific, detailed elements. The report explains about the motives behind SEPIADES, providing an introduction to both the model and the software tool. It is aimed at all those involved in cataloguing photographic collections, both cataloguers and decision makers."

"Thwarted Innovation is a major new study from the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with the Thomson Corporation, which answers the question: 'Why did the boom in e-learning go bust?' Researchers Robert Zemsky and William F. Massy used elearning Weatherstations at campuses across the country to decipher precisely what happened and why. In the end, they trumped three of elearning's most troubling assumptions....If we build it they will come...The kids will take to e-learning like ducks to water...E-learning will force a change in the way we teach..."

Reusable Design Guidelines: Version 2.9, May 7, 2004, Reusable Learning.
"Most content in educational collections and repositories is written by people who are not experts in instructional design, technology or standards. Yet a few simple things can be done to greatly enhance the reusability of the digital learning resources they produce. The purpose of this section is to present some of these in the form of guidelines. These guidelines are generic and are intended to be modified for individual collections to accommodate their character and the tools and practices commonly used in the communities they represent."

"Twenty participants will be selected based on their applications. Acceptance to this program is not guaranteed. Applicants should be full-time professional librarians, archivists, curators, or collections or records managers, who have (at least) part-time responsibility for preservation of historical or special collections or of primary research materials, including: books, paper, photographs, ephemera, maps, or other paper-based or documentary formats. Preference will be given to applicants whose institutions demonstrate a commitment to support the participation of the applicant financially and professionally in developing an institutional preservation program. Thanks to the generous support of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the registration fee for the entire three weeks of training is only $100."
